7 Ways to Stop Being Negative and Live a Happier Life

When you’re having a bad day, it’s easy to adopt a negative outlook that affects all aspects of your life. All it takes is one life changing event, perhaps a lost job or a break up, to encourage negative thinking. All of a sudden you are forgetting about all of the good in your life, and focusing on the bad.
If you are starting to fall into a pattern of pessimism, use these simple tips to nip those negative thoughts right in the bud and start living a happy and positive life once again.
1.Separate the issue: Just because one thing isn’t going your way doesn’t mean everything is in your life is a disaster! If you are starting to feel down and out, try separating all life into segments, and rejoice in the fact that so many things are going well. If you went through a break up, just remember that you have a career that you love, great friends and a close relationship with your family.
2.Gratitude changes your attitude: If you allow yourself to be negative and unhappy then it should come as no surprise that you will have a hard time pulling yourself out of this pattern. Instead of waking up and immediately thinking of the bad, start your day off by writing down five things that you are grateful for. If you start your day on a positive note it will be much easier to stay happy all day.
3.Surround yourself with positive people: If you spend a lot of time with negative people, chances are you will start to take on their negative outlook. Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people will help you stay happy and positive, too.
4.Positive thinking will stick: The reason you fall into a negative pattern is because you are constantly looking at the dark side of every situation, and allowing yourself to believe your negative thoughts. To change this, make a conscious effort to think positive thoughts. The more positive affirmations that you tell yourself throughout the day, the more likely you are to change your outlook.
5.Find time for the gym: Exercise releases endorphins into your brain that naturally make you feel good and happy. If you are stressed and starting to get down on yourself, heading out for a 20-minute jog, or going to a yoga class could be just what you need to pull yourself out of a funk.
6.Take a different route: If something isn’t working for you, such as your job or a relationship, don’t be afraid to part ways and explore other options. A fresh start can help you feel better about yourself, and stop the negative thoughts in their tracks.
7.Let it go: Perhaps the most important trick when it comes to being more positive: don’t dwell on the negative. In most cases, events that put you in a bad mood are out of your control. For example, you didn’t get an apartment that you applied for or your best friend is moving to another city. The only way get through the situation is to look on the bright side and focus on the future.
